Cattitude
My wife and I have a few animals we share our home with and the subject of this painting is one of our rescues Sophie. She is the smallest cat in the home and we think she compensates by having a kick-your-butt attitude. She rules the house!
I started with a pretty detailed charcoal drawing and identified my lightest and darkest areas. I started adding color with pastel pencils using a very light touch. I then moved to softer Unison and Girault pastels and finished with my softest pastels. This piece developed pretty quickly and it didn't take very long to finish. I took care not to overwork the painting and let some of the original linework and light washes of color show through.
