The Demographics of Turning 55

I told my friends I was turning the speed limit.

Those who commuted the roads
In and out of Montpelier,
Nodded and understood.

Those who commuted the Inter-State
From Burlington to Montpelier
Were surprised, “You are turning 65?”

Friends who did not commute,
Home-centered and dirt-roaded,
Scoffed, “Jeezum, he’s turning 35 again.”
