“Lead, Kindly Light”
Soft Pastel on Hahnemühle Velour Paper

A man in a Greek fisherman cap looks out over the land of Israel from the top of Mount Carmel with a gaze on the path ahead. He knows not what the journey into the future will bring, but he has resolute hope, born of resolute trust in his Creator.

This work incorporates the themes within the poem “Lead, Kindly Light,” by the acclaimed English theologian, philosopher, writer, and now-canonized saint, John Henry Newman. The poem, hymn originally published in 1833 as “The Pillar of Cloud.”
